Punakha Dromchoe (also known as Punakha Drubchen) is one of Bhutan’s most historically significant and visually dramatic festivals. While many Bhutanese festivals focus on religious mask dances, the Dromchoe is unique because it features a large-scale theatrical re-enactment of a 17th-century battle.
It is held annually at the Punakha Dzong, the “Palace of Great Happiness,” located at the confluence of the Pho Chhu (Father) and Mo Chhu (Mother) rivers.
